Europe’s recycling crisis has claimed another casualty, this time in northern Europe.
Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro), which develops chemical recycling technologies for end-of-life tyres (ELTs), has applied for—and received from the Gothenburg District Court—approval to enter the company reorganisation procedure under Swedish insolvency law. The process protects businesses facing financial difficulties from enforcement actions by creditors.
The reorganisation applies to the parent company, Scandinavian Enviro Systems AB, and initially runs for three months, with the possibility of extension. During this period, the company will remain in control of its operations under supervision. Johan Sölveland of Ackordscentralen has been appointed to oversee the process.
“Discussions with suppliers and customers to ensure continued operations are ongoing,” the company said in a statement, adding that it will provide further details on the reorganisation plan in due course.
Enviro’s recycling technology converts end-of-life tyre rubber into pyrolysis oil and recovered carbon black (rCB), which can be reused in the production of new rubber compounds. The process is to be implemented at industrial scale in Uddevalla, Sweden, through the joint venture established with Antin Infrastructure Partners and Michelin.
Founded in 2001, Scandinavian Enviro Systems has developed and patented a process to recover valuable raw materials from end-of-life products, particularly tyres. The company is headquartered in Gothenburg and operates a demonstration plant for ELT recycling in Åsensbruk. It is listed on Nasdaq First North Growth Market with FNCA Sweden as certified adviser, and its main shareholder is French tyre manufacturer Michelin.
In fiscal year 2025, Enviro reported a sharp decline in revenues, from SEK 170.8m to SEK 32.5m, and posted a net loss of SEK 366.6m, compared with a net profit of SEK 53.6m in 2024.
