Canadian OEM group Magna International has announced that it has signed three separate agreements to divest its automotive Lighting and Rooftop businesses, which together generated nearly $1.1 billion in sales last year.
Two of the agreements were signed with Bavarian holding company Mutares, which will take over the European Lighting and Rooftop Systems operations, while the Lighting activities in North America, South America and China will be sold to an unnamed investment firm.
Mutares provided further details of the acquisition. The European automotive lighting operations, which are expected to generate $235 million in revenue in 2025, will be acquired by Amaneos Group, part of Mutares, and integrated into Light Mobility Solutions GmbH (LMS). The transaction, the company said in a statement, will strengthen the group’s capabilities by integrating lighting systems into exterior panels.
In 2021, Mutares had already acquired three German plants from Magna International specializing in the production of plastic exterior auto parts, including trim strips and radiator grilles, in Obertshausen, Sulzbach and Idar-Oberstein.
Separately, Mutares has signed an agreement to acquire Magna’s Rooftop business, which is expected to generate around $85 million in revenue in 2025. The operations will complement those of HiLo Group, combining its existing expertise in hinges and locking systems with advanced roof architectures and mechanisms.
No buyer has yet been disclosed for the Lighting operations in North America, South America and China.
All three transactions are expected to close in the second half of 2026, subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals.
