A fire broke out on 12 June in the solid styrenic polymer warehouse at Versalis’ Mantua site in northern Italy, generating a smoke plume visible from a considerable distance.

The flames, the company said in a statement, did not involve any workers and did not spread to the production plants.

The alarm was triggered automatically by the internal fire-fighting system. The site was evacuated in around 15 minutes. The fire was later extinguished by the fire brigade.

The causes of the incident are not yet known.
