Recycled polystyrene for food packaging

Trinseo introduces a new grade with up to 30% rPS for direct food contact, produced at its Schkopau facility.

Trinseo rPS for food contactTrinseo has introduced a new transparent polystyrene grade containing 30% recycled material, approved in Europe for direct food contact in compliance with EU Regulation 2020/1616.

Unlike conventional mechanical recycling, this process relies on chemical-physical recycling through dissolution, allowing the extraction of the polymer from both post- and pre-consumer waste, even if contaminated.
