The chemical recycling modules developed by U.S. company Resynergi are compact, modular and quick to install, making them suitable for placement within existing facilities. These innovative systems are supplied, serviced and warrantied by Lummus Technology, a proven industry leader that has integrated its proprietary Continuous Microwave Assisted Pyrolysis (CMAP) process into the solution.
Each module can convert up to 5 tons per day of hard-to-recycle plastic waste into pyrolysis oil. Once purified, this feedstock can replace fossil-based raw materials used in the production of plastics and other chemical compounds.
The reactor is 10 times more compact than conventional units and is mounted on skid-based platforms to simplify installation. According to Resynergi, the use of microwave technology to break down polymer chains accelerates the process. Multiple modules can be implemented depending on the required recycling capacity.
The modules can also leverage software from Lummus Digital, a joint venture between Lummus Technology and TCG-Digital. These digital capabilities integrate data collection, machine learning and artificial intelligence, ensuring reliable and sustainable operations. They can also monitor Resynergi module installations, offering real-time data for improved decision-making and allowing operators to access expert advice and remote support.
"The world can't wait for large factories and recycling facilities to come online to process our mounting plastic waste crisis," said Brian Bauer, CEO of Resynergi. "The commercial offering of our Resynergi modules is a crucial milestone in the viability, speed and impact of a circular future for plastic. We're proud to have Lummus Technology as our trusted partner to bring our Resynergi modules to market and make advanced recycling not only possible and profitable but friendly, safe and clean for local municipalities."
"Now that the technology is available," added Leon de Bruyn, president and CEO of Lummus Technology, "we can work with customers to integrate this advanced solution into existing infrastructure, helping close the loop on plastic waste and drive sustainability in our industry."
