Borouge, the UAE-based polyolefin producer and joint venture between Adnoc and Borealis, has unveiled plans for a major expansion targeting its EU2 ethane cracker and its PE4 and PE5 polyethylene units.
The goal is to push total production capacity to 6.6 million tonnes by 2028, the expected completion date of the project.

To support the expansion, Borouge has signed a front-end engineering design (FEED) agreement with Linde Engineering to add 230,000 tonnes per year of ethylene output, and a deal with Target Engineering Construction to expand polyethylene production.
The move will increase the annual capacity of each of the two PE units by 200,000 tonnes, reaching 700,000 tonnes per unit, potentially boosting EBITDA by up to $200 million.

Borouge is also at the center of a major merger project with Borealis and Nova Chemicals, the result of an agreement between OMV, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc), and Mubadala Investment.
