After obtaining antitrust clearance, BASF has completed the sale of its Styrodur extruded polystyrene foam (XPS) insulation business, including the brand itself, to Karl Bachl Kunststoffverarbeitung (Bachl).
The approximately 50 employees involved, however, will remain with the German chemical group.

Bachl, headquartered in Deching, Bavaria, is one of Germany’s leading manufacturers of insulation and construction materials and had previously been BASF’s distribution partner for Styrodur. Bachl employs around 2,600 people and operates production sites in Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Romania and Croatia.
“We are proud to take over the Styrodur brand and are extremely confident about its future,” stated Bachl CEO Michael Küblbeck. “We are looking forward to continuing its successful cooperation with customers and partners.”

BASF, meanwhile, will focus its efforts on expandable polystyrene (EPS), marketed under the Neopor and Styropor brands. “We want to expand our EPS business and further strengthen our position in the market,” said Klaus Ries, head of business management styrenics Europe at BASF. “To this end, BASF will increase Neopor’s production capacity in Ludwigshafen by 50,000 tons to 250,000 tons per year. The expanded capacity is expected to be available from the beginning of 2027.”
