Borealis boosts compounding with recycled

The Austrian group has started up a new facility in Beringen, Belgium, dedicated to polyolefin compounds with recycled materials, furthering its upcycling strategy.

September 26, 2025 12:47

Borealis compounding line BeringenBorealis has recently brought onstream in Beringen, Belgium, a new compounding plant for polyolefins containing recycled content. It’s part of its EverMinds circularity program, which has been expanded through the recent acquisitions of Rialti in Italy (compounding) and Integra Plastics in Bulgaria (recycling).

The new line is based on the Borcycle M mechanical recycling platform and enables the blending of post-consumer polyolefins with virgin resins to produce high-performance polypropylene (PP) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) compounds. These materials are suited for technical applications in sectors such as mobility, consumer goods, household appliances and energy.

In addition to producing compounds (around 400,000 t/y), the Beringen site also serves as a co-development platform, allowing customers to work directly with Borealis to design and test new recycled-content formulations for high-value applications, supporting the group’s upcycling approach.

“This installation is more than just a technological milestone, it’s a clear commitment to our customers,” says Craig Arnold, executive vice president polyolefins, base chemicals and circular economy solutions. “By expanding access to high-quality recyclate-based materials, we’re enabling our partners to accelerate their circular transformation. This approach is fully aligned with our strategic ambition to drive sustainable growth through innovation and collaboration.”
