Reports about the possible shutdown of the Fife Ethylene Plant (FEP), part of ExxonMobil’s complex in Mossmorran, Scotland, have been confirmed by trade unions and echoed by UK government officials.
The ethylene cracker is expected to cease operations by mid-February 2026, after the UK government denied a funding request for a modernisation plan that would have required over £1 billion in investment. According to the company, attempts to sell the facility also yielded no results.
