Thierry Boulfroy (pictured) has been appointed chief executive officer of TotalEnergies Corbion, the French producer of polylactic acid (PLA) bioplastics — a joint venture between TotalEnergies and Corbion. He succeeds Thomas Philipon, who led the company for the past five years.
According to the company, the leadership transition marks the beginning of a new phase focused on performance, competitiveness and global growth opportunities in the evolving PLA market.
Born in 1963, Boulfroy brings more than 35 years of international experience in refining, polymers and biopolymers. He joins from Hanwha TotalEnergies Petrochemical in South Korea, where he served as executive vice president and joint representative director, overseeing strategic operations in the petrochemical sector.
Earlier, he was general manager of TotalEnergies Petrochemicals Feluy in Belgium — one of the group’s key polymer production hubs — and held several leadership roles in Asia, managing operations in Singapore, Thailand and Hong Kong.
His background includes responsibilities in polystyrene, logistics and commercial strategy across various TotalEnergies subsidiaries and predecessor companies, such as Elf Atochem, Atofina, Bostik Findley and Orkem.
As CEO of TotalEnergies Corbion, Boulfroy will lead the global expansion of Luminy PLA, drive industrial performance and strengthen the joint venture’s positioning as a leader in bio-based and sustainable polymer innovation.
