With the latest expansion completed at its Toluca site, Mexican company PetStar now claims the world’s largest single-site food-grade PET recycling capacity.

The investment — approximately MXN 2.6 billion (over €120 million) — has raised the plant’s processing capability to 123,000 tonnes of PET per year, translating into around 86,000 tonnes per year of food-grade rPET, enough to produce 5.5 billion bottles annually. This marks a 70% increase in capacity compared with the previous level.

Founded 30 years ago, PetStar is currently owned by Arca Continental and a group of Coca-Cola bottlers operating in Mexico.
