The French government has repealed the ban on the commercialization of polystyrene and styrenic copolymer packaging, initially set to take effect on January 1, 2025, as part of the 2021 Climate and Resilience Law.
This decision follows the sector's concerns that the ban conflicted with the new European regulations on packaging and packaging waste (PPRW).
Article 23 of the law originally stated: “From January 1, 2025, packaging made entirely or partially from styrene polymers or copolymers, which are non-recyclable and cannot be integrated into a recycling stream, is prohibited.”
