The Board of Directors of Corepla, Italy’s national consortium for the collection, recycling and recovery of plastic packaging, has appointed Giorgio Quagliuolo as its new president for the 2026-2029 term. He succeeds Giovanni Cassuti of Versalis, whose mandate had come to an end.

According to a statement issued by the consortium, the appointment comes at a crucial stage for Italy’s recycling supply chain, which is facing major economic, industrial and regulatory changes.

The appointment follows Corepla’s customary leadership rotation between plastics producers and plastics converting companies that are members of the consortium.

Quagliuolo is now serving his fourth term as president of Corepla, after previous mandates in 2007-2010, 2013-2016 and 2020-2023.

“I take on this role with a great sense of responsibility, at a time when the profound transformations affecting energy and raw materials markets require vision and the ability to adapt,” Quagliuolo said. “Today more than ever, the recycling of plastic packaging and the use of secondary raw materials represent a strategic factor for the competitiveness of the production system, security of supply and the achievement of European environmental targets.”
“Strengthening Italy’s ability to make the most of resources already present in production cycles means making Italian industry more resilient and making a concrete contribution to the transition toward an increasingly circular economy,” he added.
