Dow expands global silicones capacity

New investments target liquid silicone rubber, engineered materials and R&D laboratories to support growth in mobility, electronics and health care applications.

June 24, 2026 14:25

dow headquartersUS chemical group Dow has announced investment projects worth approximately $100 million by the end of 2027 to develop and produce specialty silicones.
The capacity expansions will involve sites in the United States, China and Japan.

Specifically, new capacity for liquid silicone rubber (LSR) for high-performance applications in mobility, electronics and health care will come online in 2027 in Carrollton, Kentucky, USA, and Zhangjiagang, China.

In 2026, capacity expansions for engineered silicone materials are planned at the Songjiang site in China and in Fukui, Japan, with further expansions scheduled next year in Auburn, Michigan, USA, and Zhangjiagang.

On the research and development side, Dow has announced the expansion of its Cooling Science Labs in Shanghai, China, and Midland, Michigan, USA, completed earlier this year.

“These investments underscore Dow’s focus on scaling specialty silicones materials and bringing innovation closer and faster to our customers,” said Brendy Lange, president of Performance Materials & Coatings. “By expanding manufacturing and innovation capabilities in these strategic regions, we are investing to meet increasing consumer demand, strengthening our global supply chain capabilities, and enabling customers to move faster from innovation to commercialization.”
