Versalis (ENI Group) is shutting down its polyethylene production plant in Brindisi and placing it in preserved state as provided for under the protocol signed on March 10 last year at the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (Mimit).
Under the agreement, the shutdown was conditional on a final decision regarding the stationary battery project. Construction of the gigafactory at the Brindisi industrial site, which is being developed in partnership with Seri Industrial, began on July 6.
As for the cracker, which was shut down last year, Versalis has made itself available to work with Mimit to identify potential buyers and has appointed an adviser for this purpose.
An update on the Eni Group’s basic chemicals restructuring plan will be provided at the ministry on July 30 during a meeting with the signatories to the protocol.
