MES with PCF calculation

In the new version of TEMI+, the Product Carbon Footprint evaluation is performed for each molding cycle.

Mest temi+ WittmannIn June, during the Competence Days, the Wittmann Group presented the new edition of MES TEMI+, which now includes a feature for calculating the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF). This function, increasingly required in companies' ESG programs, complements data on energy and material consumption.

The PCF includes emissions from the entire life cycle of a product, from raw material production to recycling, making its calculation complex without specific software.

The carbon footprint of an injection-molded product can be automatically calculated by clicking the relevant function on the expanded dashboard of the TEMI+ software package.

The key figures are displayed for each individual cycle. The CO2 emissions are now added, each indicated in grams per cycle.
When using a single-cavity mold, this value corresponds to the PCF. When using multi-cavity molds, this value is divided by the number of cavities to obtain the PCF.

The energy consumption of the production cell is measured automatically, cycle by cycle, either by the MES or using the iMAGOxt software. To calculate CO2 emissions, the location of production must also be considered. For example, in Germany, the current electricity mix applies a factor of 0.354 grams of CO2 per watt-hour (Wh). This value is stored in the MES or shared by the client’s ERP system so the system can automatically calculate the CO2 footprint of the production cell.
The CO2 footprint of the material is another value that must be input into the system, and it is increasingly provided by the manufacturer.

With this data, TEMI+’s dashboard displays the product’s carbon footprint, showing separately the impact of the injection molding process and the material on total emissions.
