COIM expands footprint in the U.S.

The Italian specialty chemicals producer has acquired a site in Texas, with plans to boost production capacity over the next two years.

May 20, 2025 16:58

COIM headquarters ItalyCOIM, an Italian manufacturer of polyester-based specialties, polyols, polyurethanes and special resins, is continuing its international expansion strategy with the acquisition of a 20-acre property in New Boston, Texas, previously owned by Palmer International.
The deal was completed through its U.S. subsidiary, Coim USA.

In addition to an existing logistics infrastructure, the acquisition includes a new line of renewable polyol products derived primarily from CNSL (cashew nutshell liquid), a natural phenolic oil obtained as a byproduct from cashew nut shell processing. This product line complements COIM’s existing Isoexter-branded polyester polyols.

As part of its American growth plan, COIM intends to add 45,000 tons of annual capacity at the newly acquired site by mid-2027 to support further product lines. The investment aims to enhance geographic efficiency and operational redundancy, ensuring reliable service and supply continuity for customers across North America.

Michelangelo Cavallo COIM USA“This acquisition represents a significant milestone in COIM USA’s long-term growth strategy,” said Michelangelo Cavallo, president of Coim USA. “The New Boston location broadens our geographic reach, expands our sustainable portfolio and enhances COIM USA’s ability to serve customers with greater speed, efficiency and resiliency.”

Founded in 1962, COIM operates 19 companies — of which nine are specialized production and R&D sites — in Italy, Singapore, India, the United States, Brazil, Spain, Austria and the Netherlands, and employs more than 1,350 people.
The company has been active in the U.S. since 2005, with two plants in Paulsboro and West Deptford, New Jersey.
Its operations span three core product lines: polyesters and polyols; polyurethane CASE (coatings, adhesives, sealants, elastomers); and polyesters and special resins.
