In a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Texas-based chemical group Westlake announced its decision to permanently close the Westlake Epoxy facility in Pernis, the Netherlands.

According to the document, the decision was made “in light of the continued deterioration of the company’s business in Europe.”

The shutdown will be completed by the end of this year, following consultations with employee representatives.

Some operations at the site had already been halted last year, but production of liquid epoxy resins and bisphenol A (BPA) had remained active. With the closure of these final units, customers will be supplied from the company’s facility in Deer Park, Texas.

Westlake expects it will incur total pre-tax costs of approximately €190 million related to the closure of the Dutch plant, which currently employs 230 people.
