Closing the loop on sulfone polymers

Syensqo unveils a chemical recycling process to recover polyarylethersulfone without performance loss.

syensqo logoBelgian chemical company Syensqo has announced the development of a proprietary chemical recycling technology based on depolymerization to recover sulfone-based engineering polymers—PSU, PPSU and PESU—from both industrial scraps and post-consumer waste.

The new process enables the recovery of purified monomers that can be reused to produce new polyarylethersulfone (PAES) from the Echo range, which Syensqo markets under the Udel PSU, Radel PPSU and Veradel PESU brands.
These regenerated monomers can also be used in other thermoplastics or epoxy-based formulations, with no loss in performance.

By enabling the recycling of sulfone polymers from both production scrap and end-of-life products, we help reduce carbon footprint and increase recycled content in a wide range of applications, from hemodialysis and water filtration to aerospace.”
