US platform highlights plastics role

Positives of Plastic offers data and tools to explain the material’s economic value and role in sustainability and innovation.

December 9, 2025 11:49

Positives of Plastic homepage websiteThe Plastics Industry Association (Plastics) has launched Positives of Plastic, a digital platform aimed at providing fact-based information on plastic materials and their role in the modern economy.

The site offers accessible content for industry stakeholders, policymakers, and the public, with data and visuals illustrating how plastics contribute to innovation, safety, and environmental responsibility.

Key features include U.S. economic data showing more than 1 million jobs supported by the plastics industry and a contribution of $551 billion annually. The platform also introduces “Poppy,” a chatbot that answers common questions about plastics, and offers downloadable materials that highlight the benefits of plastic use in areas such as health care, packaging, transport, and infrastructure.

A dedicated section addresses sustainability, presenting evidence that plastic can, in many cases, be the most resource-efficient and recyclable option. The initiative seeks to counter misconceptions and promote informed discussions on circularity and plastic waste reduction.

“This is about helping people understand the essential role plastics play in everyday life and in advancing sustainability,” said Matt Seaholm, president and CEO of Plastics.
