Austrian plastic packaging manufacturer Alpla has invested around €30 million to expand its production capacity in Turkey with two new plants in Izmir and Adana.

The investment is intended to strengthen its presence in the Africa, Middle East and Turkey (AMET) region, with Turkey currently accounting for around 35% of the group’s regional operations.

The Izmir plant, covering around 50,000 square metres, will produce PET preforms, closures and HDPE and PET bottles. The Adana facility, covering approximately 20,000 square metres, will focus on PET preforms and HDPE and PP packaging.
The two new sites will mainly serve the beverage, food and dairy, detergent and personal care markets.

The choice of locations also reflects logistics requirements, the Austrian group said. Izmir will mainly serve the Aegean region and western Turkey, while Adana will supply the Mediterranean region and the south-east of the country.
Both plants incorporate automation and photovoltaic systems, with a combined installed capacity of around 2.5 MW.

Alpla has been operating in the Turkish market since 1992. Its production network in the country now includes Kocaeli, Ankara, Konya and the new sites in Adana and Izmir.

Last year, the group generated sales of €5.2 billion and operated 206 plants in 45 countries, with 25,440 employees.
