A new recycling plant for composite waste recovery and carbon fiber regeneration has been inaugurated in Imola, Northern Italy, by Herambiente (Hera Group).
The facility, named FIB3R, is the first of its kind in Europe at an industrial scale.
Each year, FIB3R will produce up to 160 tons of regenerated carbon fiber, which can be reused in various industrial sectors, including automotive, aerospace, marine, furniture and textiles. This project involved a collaboration with the Department of Industrial Chemistry at the University of Bologna and its technological partner Curti Costruzioni Meccaniche, a Ravenna-based company and leader in the production of automatic machines for industrial applications. Curti provided its expertise and pilot plant to model the formula being studied.
