Europe’s chemical sector is under heavy pressure, with repeated announcements of plant closures and canceled investment projects. The latest comes from Arlanxeo, a Saudi Aramco subsidiary, which is considering closing its Port Jérôme site in Lillebonne, France, where it produces butadiene-based elastomers.
Arlanxeo Elastomères France, which manages the plant, has already initiated consultations with employee representatives, as required by French law. A final decision will be taken at the end of discussions with the works council, but the outlook for the facility appears bleak.
