Arlanxeo to shut down French plant

CEO Stephan van Santbrink cites weak demand, rising costs and regulatory pressure as key reasons for the site’s structural losses.

image from arlanxeo webisteEurope’s chemical sector is under heavy pressure, with repeated announcements of plant closures and canceled investment projects. The latest comes from Arlanxeo, a Saudi Aramco subsidiary, which is considering closing its Port Jérôme site in Lillebonne, France, where it produces butadiene-based elastomers.

Arlanxeo Elastomères France, which manages the plant, has already initiated consultations with employee representatives, as required by French law. A final decision will be taken at the end of discussions with the works council, but the outlook for the facility appears bleak.
