DOMO files for insolvency in Germany

The downturn in Europe’s chemicals industry and extra-EU imports have impacted three German companies of the Belgian group active in polyamides.

The companies were hit by the crisis affecting the European chemicals sector, exacerbated by a sharp rise in imports of polyamide resins from non-EU countries, particularly China.
The company responded by launching a restructuring process in 2024. “After talks over further short-term financing recently broke down, the three German entities were forced to file for insolvency,” the Belgian group said.

The proceedings allow the three companies to continue operating while restructuring moves ahead. The competent local court appointed Prof. Dr. Lucas F. Flöther, a name partner at the law firm Flöther & Wissing, as the preliminary insolvency administrator.

“Day-to-day operations are continuing at all locations. Manufacturing and customer deliveries remain uninterrupted,” Flöther said. Together with his team, he is already on site and informing the approximately 585 employees about the situation. Wages and salaries are secured for the next three months through insolvency benefits. “This gives us some important financial breathing room,” Flöther said.

“The German companies of the DOMO Group are among the technology leaders in their field,” Flöther said. “In addition, they have a highly capable workforce and a strong, reputable customer base. These are not bad starting conditions, even though the market environment for chemical companies is undoubtedly challenging.”

The insolvency proceedings apply exclusively to the three German companies, which together employ almost 600 people at the Leuna and Premnitz sites.
