In an official filing to the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange, polyolefins producer Borouge announced the creation of an equal joint venture with Wanrong New Materials, a company controlled by Wanhua Chemical, to build a cracker and polyethylene production complex in Fujian province, China.
The agreement, which is subject to regulatory approvals, defines the governance and financing structure for the next stages of the project’s development, based on Borouge’s proprietary Borstar process technology.
The joint venture project dates back to summer 2024 and involved not only Borouge but also Borealis, which has been incorporated into the Borouge International holding company together with Canada’s Nova Chemicals (see article).
