Coperion informed employees on 20 July that it intends to close its Ferrara site, triggering a collective redundancy procedure affecting around 80 workers. The company is part of the Hillenbrand Group, which was recently acquired by Lone Star.
At the Ferrara site, Coperion designs and installs material handling and feeding systems and equipment for extrusion and compounding plants. It also provides engineering and after-sales services.
According to trade unions, citing information provided by management, the company is not operating at a loss and has orders in its backlog. The closure is reportedly linked to profitability levels being considered insufficient. At the time of the announcement, the company had apparently neither proposed selling the business nor begun searching for a potential buyer.
