Luxembourg-based graphene nanotube manufacturer OCSiAl has announced plans to build a new production facility in Europe, which, once operational, will be the largest in the world.

According to the company’s plans, the new nanotube factory will be located in Differdange, Luxembourg, supported by an estimated investment of €300 million and expected to create over 300 new jobs. Production will ramp up in phases between 2028 and 2030.

The final decision follows a recent funding round from Luxembourg-based investors and the signing of a long-term land lease with the State of Luxembourg.

Thanks to their conductivity and mechanical strength, carbon nanotubes are used to reinforce materials and in the production of high-performance battery electrodes, including next-generation cells—a fast-growing market in the electric and hybrid vehicle industry, as well as consumer electronics. Just 0.01% of nanotubes is enough to create a 3D conductive network within a polymer matrix, enhancing the final product's durability and functionality.

“Graphene nanotubes can improve over half of the materials we use every day—from safer batteries to longer-lasting tires and ultralight protective equipment,” said Alain Kinsch, a member of OCSiAl’s Board of Directors.

Founded in Luxembourg fifteen years ago, OCSiAl currently produces graphene nanotubes at a plant in Serbia, inaugurated late last year, with a current annual capacity of 60 tonnes, which is now being expanded.
